So the countdown is complete. J.D. did the 300 Warriors ride!! It was so cool and I am so proud of him. He finished the race in 7 hours 40 minutes. (I can't imagine riding a bike for 7 hours straight.) So for a few details: this ride started in Park City, over to Kamas, past Deer Creek Reservoir, down Provo Canyon, up the Alpine Loop, down the Alpine Loop, up Suncrest, down Suncrest, along Wasatch to Little Cottonwood Canyon, and then up to Snowbird - for a total of 99 miles and 14,778 feet of climbing. CRAZY!!! Here is a quote from the website about the ride:
"On the fourth and most demanding day in "America's toughest stage race," (Tour of Utah)300 citizen warriors will precede the professional teams by 4 hours. Their goal: ride 98 miles and scale 14,778 vertical feet, a feat representing over 28% of the horizontal distance and almost half the climbing in the five-day Tour of Utah stage race. Finishing this ride is the equivalent to riding the Tour de France’s Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Télégraphe, Col du Galibier and Alpe d’Huez"
J.D. and his three good friends from Fresno, Adam, Vic, and Jared all rode together - Well Jared caught up for the last 20 miles after a late start:o) J.D.'s brother Jeff, our nephew Kristopher, and I dove SAG (support and gear) for them. It was fun to watch them all along the way. They were all great until they hit that climb to Snowbird, and I got a little worried, but they all stuck it out like champs! You guys ROCK!!!
Our biggest thanks to everyone that supported J.D. through this. Thanks Terry and company for keeping the kids. Thanks mom and Jenn for watching Reese so I could be a bike wife. Wow, now I am officially convinced they are all insane! That is so crazy. I'm impressed. I have to say I was totally laughing at JD's Brumby's shirt - I just watched 'The Man from Snowy River' with my sisters. Good job guys!
JD you rock!! It was so fun and inspiring to watch you finish the race. To think you did most of you training at a lower elevation. what is next? Kendra....Iron Girl Triathalon..... April 2009...
